RFC 21 coverage

RFC 21 coverage

Undefeated pro mixed martial arts fighter Patrick Cenobole scored his fifth career win and earned the Fight of the Night honors in the main event of the RFC 21: New Blood fight card at the A La Carte Pavilion in Tampa, Fla. July 23.

In an uncharacteristically long fight for the express-knockout-artist Cenobole showed great stamina and conditioning which allowed him to withstand the powerful shots and takedown efforts by opponent Travis Cox while dishing out some punishment of his own.

Cox’s game plan apparently centered around  keeping Cenobole off his feet in order to sabotage his striking power. But this strategy seriously backfired when Cenobole finished Cox with a vicious dose of ground and pound at 1:11 in round three.

Tampa MMA fighter Robert Radney was not so lucky as he suffered the first blemish to his fight record at the hands of  Gracie Barra Orlando fighter Andrew Connors. In spite of Radney’s well-rounded fighting skills Connors was able to rock Radney early in round one with a well-aimed punch to his face. In an effort to avoid a TKO-call Radney went for the clinch. Sensing a golden opportunity Connors did not waste any time to take Radney down to the mat where he almost immediately locked him into what looked like an air-tight rear naked choke. Amazingly, Radney was able to not only withstand Connors’ powerful choke hold but even managed to get out of it and jump back on his feet. Connors continued his grappling and submission clinic that included a triangle choke but Radney kept evading defeat until Connors finally sealed his fate with a rear-naked choke at 1:03 in round two. Connors earned Submission of the Night honors for his impressive performance.

After a year-long MMA sabbatical undefeated Mike Rideout made his successful comeback while dealing Alex Cruz his first loss. Although Cruz had more momentum coming into this bout due to his recent win against Mike Joiner at RFC 20 last Feb. Rideout clearly dominated throughout all rounds. Even when Cruz taunted him to keep the punches coming during the stand-up portion of the bout Rideout kept his cool and finally submitted Cruz via triangle choke at 1:13 in round three.

In the shortest fight of the night Jay Beharry defeated Daniel Wade via TKO at 1:27 in round one and earned KO of the Night honors. It almost seemed like Beharry was disappointed about the quick finish as he urged the knocked down Wade to get back up.

John Gabbia pulled off the fastest submission of the night when he locked Evan Baxter in a rear-naked choke which left Baxter no other choice but to tap out at 2:45 in round one in a  bout that marked both fighters professional debut.

Below are the fght results in chronological order:

  • Mike Rideout def. Alex Cruz via submission (triangle choke) at 1:13 in round three
  • Jay Beharry def. Daniel Wade via TKO at 1:20 in round one
  • John Gabbia def. Evan Baxter via submision (rear-naked choke) at 2:45 in round one
