According to Dave Meltzer’s “Wrestling Observer,” a middleweight scrap between top contenders Vitor Belfort and Yushin Okami will headline UFC 122 on November 13th.
Belfort was headed on a collision course with champion Anderson Silva, however a February shoulder surgery allowed Chael Sonnen to leapfrog into a 5Round affair. The chatty challenger made the most of his opportunity and nearly stole the crown from the division’s longtime king.
Courtesy of his spectacular showing in a last-second submission loss, it appears Sonnen will be granted an immediate rematch.
Belfort has never fought at middleweight under the UFC banner. Although he’s riding a five-fight win streak, his only Octagon appearance during that run came a year ago in a 1stRound knockout of Rich Franklin at a catchweight of 195 pounds.
Okami, on the other hand, is fresh off a split decision win over Mark Munoz earlier this month. The talented Japanese star has won five of his last six scraps. His only loss during the stretch came to the aforementioned Sonnen.
It’s believed the event will be jumping off inside Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany. Spike TV is expected to air free via same-day tape-delay.
Here are the contestants rumored for the freebie broadcast:
Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Jason Brilz
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Goran Reljic
Amir Sadollah vs. Peter Sobotta
Yushin Okami vs. Vitor Belfort
Bar Refaeli
Malin Akerman
Mila Kunis
