Switching internet service

Switching internet service

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed my internet  upload and download speeds were getting slow again.  This happens after awhile and the speed slowdowns are quite noticeable.  We have had the same cable internet for over a year.  I decided tor try sprint’s service and called the cable company to cancel after receiving the new sprint 4g modem.  Like previous times, the cable company offered us a better deal to stay on board. I opted to stay in until we could decide if the overall service was acceptable on sprint.  Funny thing is the cable speed went back to fast after that call.  I suspect the cable company throttles speeds as needed or to create fake incentive for customers to upgrade to faster speeds.

We signed up for a sprint 4g modem plan and it was decent speeds for uploading and downloading. It cost more but the advantage is you can plug it in anywhere and does not require a cable outlet.  After 2 weeks, it seemed to be slow too from time to time.  We took it on the road with us where 3g is always available when out of the 4g range.  Unfortunately, it failed the test.  We plugged it in waited for 10 minutes and still no internet. Luckily the hotel room had free internet.

Upon returning home, I signed on to their online chat to try to cancel it.  After all, I ordered the modem online and never had to speak to anyone and it shipped right out.  The chat guy said I had to call in.  I know why, the closer would try to convince me to stay on and not cancel.  I called and explained I was in the 30 day guarantee and wanted to cancel.  She asked why and I was blunt about the speed and the failed 4G and 3G usage on the road.  She didn’t argue that at all or offer up any excuses and said would email a return label to send it back with no cancellation fees.  Instead she tried to sell me on a cell phone with internet.
