In the main event of the evening, Alexey Oleinik edged Mike Hayes by a bloody split decision by maintaining an active guard after being taken down by Hayes early on. Oleinik threw a steady stream of submission attempts at Hayes, which never allowed Hayes to settle in hit much of any effective ground and pound for the first two rounds. Hayes looked his best in the third despite the deep cut (from an accidental head butt) but by then it was too late. Oleinik will now face UFC veteran Neil Grove in the semi-finals of the heavyweight tournemant.
Jose Vega overcame being rocked early by Danny Tims in a fast paced Bantamweight quarterfinal. Vega utilized strong kicks, good takedown defense, and secured an early takedown that kept Tims on his back for most of the first. Vega will now face the winner of Nick Mamalis and Zack Makovsky.
In the Womens 115lbs quarterfinal, Lisa Ward used superior grappling and ground control to earn her spot in the semi-finals against tournament favorite Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii.
The opening bout of the night featured a relatively quick submission by Steve Carl over Tyler Stinson. Stinson and Carl were involved in a rather fast paced bout before Carl locked in a guillotine and put Stinson to sleep in the only finish of the main card.
