One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. With former Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz vacating his belt to pursue Georges St-Pierre’s UFC bling-bling, Tyron Woodley and Tarec Saffiedine stepped into the spotlight and submitted their resumes to become the company’s next 170-pound king.

Saffiedine completely dominated veteran Scott Smith at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson,” while Woodley posted a unanimous decision victory of his own over Paul Daley on Saturday night. Their performances not only won over fans inside the inside the Sears Centre in Illinois, but company CEO Scott Coker was also impressed with their exhibitions.

“That’s something that we’re going to go back to the office and have a conversation internally,” Coker stated at post-fight press conference. “But I would think that Tyron and Tarec are going to be the frontrunners for that vacant title when it does happen.”

While Coker wouldn’t completely commit to the championship shootout, the writing was all over Woodley’s clothes. The wrestler was donning a T-shirt that had ‘I Got Next’ plastered on it at the presser.

“At this point, I definitely wouldn’t be satisfied with anything else,” Woodley said of competing for the crown in his next outing. “I definitely thought this fight would put me in the position to be in a world title fight, and I still have that same idea. I don’t think there’s anybody else in the weight class that deserves it.

“I think I should be fighting for the world title.”

Woodley owns a perfect 9-0 resume, with his last seven scraps coming under Strikeforce’s banner. Saffiedine bumped his record to 11-3 following last night’s outing. He’s 3-1 inside Strikeforce’s hexagon.
