In UFC 133's featured preliminary bouts on Spike TV, Alexander Gustafsson finished fan-favorite Matt Hamill with a second-round TKO and Chad Mendes moved closer to a featherweight title shot with a unanimous decision over Rani Yahya.

Matt Hamill vs. Alexander Gustafsson
Round 1- Both fighters circle each other before Gustafsson lands a solid uppercut. Hamill lands a solid uppercut but Gustafsson counters with the same. Gustafsson is staying light on his feet so Hamill cannot look for the takedown. USA chant begins… Rogan points out this is pointless since he’s deaf. Hamill lands a nice hook that cuts Gustafsson. Minute left and it is anyones round. Gustafsson lands a solid combo with :35 to go. Gustafsson doing a great job utilizing feints to set up his combos. Round ends with Hamill landing a shot after the bell. No harm no foul though as both fighters touch gloves. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 Gustafsson in a close round
Round 2- Round two begins with more of the same. Hamill attempts a shot but Gustaffson throws him off. Gustafsson starts off a combo with a nasty straight left and then floors Hamill with an uppercut. Gustafsson follows up with a brutal barrage of shots, Hamill fights to survive but Gustafsson eventually gets full mount. Referee Dan Miraglotta finally steps in and stops the fight at the 3:34 mark. Hamill is a bloody mess at the time of the stoppage.
Chad Mendes vs. Rani Yahya
Round 1- Mendes picks at Yahya the majority of the round before throwing Yahya to the ground. Mendes closes the round with a hard flying knee attempt. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 Mendes.
Round 2- Mendes opens with a powerful takedown and lands strikes through out the round. Yahya escapes and we’re back on our feet. Yahya lands an open handed strike that connects flush on Mendes. Mendes recovers and staggers Yahya. The round closes in what has been a slow paced fight so far. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 Mendes. (20-18)
Round 3- Mendes again with a powerful takedown but is unable to do much with it as he is forced defend Yahya’s ground attack. Yahya escapes back to his feet again but Mendes promptly takes him down again. Yahya again attacks with rubber guard and eventually rolls for a heel hook Mendes escapes. Yahya clips Mendes but Mendes recovers and takes Yahya back to the mat. Mendes executes a rather pointless flip to pass guard and the round ends. MMAFrenzy scores the round 10-9 for Mendes (30-27) in a rather disappointing fight for the former number one contender.
The judges award the fight to Mendes with a 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 unanimous decision victory.
