Dream.17 Officially Announced, Two Title Fights Headline Show

Dream.17 Officially Announced, Two Title Fights Headline Show

Strikeforce light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi

It’s déjà vu all over again.” While most fans thought Dream.17 took place this past weekend at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, it appears the name of that event was actually changed to “Dream: Fight for Japan” and the REAL Dream.17 card will go down July 16th.

Today, the financially plagued mixed martial arts promotion announced two title fights will headline their upcoming show inside the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.

Light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi puts his strap on the line against Hiroshi Izumi in the card’s featured contest, while Kazuyuki Miyata will challenge featherweight title holder Hiroyuki Takaya for his belt in the night’s other championship affair.

Dream’s eight-man bantamweight tournament will also conclude at the event.

As of now, no broadcast plans have been announced for the star-studded show. If the event is made available in North America, HDNet would likely play host.

Here are the athletes expected to perform in the Land of the Rising Sun:

Bantamweight Tournament:

Atsushi Yamamoto vs. Kenji Osawa (Third Place)
Masakazu Imanari vs. Hideo Tokoro (Finals)

Individual Bouts:

Willamy Freire vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Hiroyuki Takaya vs. (Dream Featherweight Champion)
Hiroshi Izumi vs. Gegard Mousasi (Dream Light Heavyweight Champion)
