ESPN Breaks Down Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida Controversy

UFC Lyoto Machda Rampage Jackson 123

It’s been exactly one week since Quinton “Rampage” Jackson left UFC 123 with a split decision win over Lyoto Machida. Now that everybody and their mothers have debated the controversial verdict over Thanksgiving dinner, it’s time for the experts at ESPN2’s MMA LIVE to drop their two cents on the matter.

The former light heavyweight champions headlined last Saturday’s pay-per-view broadcast inside The Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan.

Although “The Dragon” turned up the heat in the 3rdRound, it wasn’t enough to overcome the hole he dug himself in the first two stanzas. This, according to two of the three judges sitting cage-side.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, by the time Octagon voice Bruce Buffer finished rattling off the unfavorable (28-29, 29-28, 29-28) scores, the ever elusive one was sent on the first two-fight skid of his illustrious career – leaving the entire Machida Nation completely flabbergasted in the process.

Despite their drama-filled ending, UFC president Dana White also had Rampage winning two-thirds of the rounds on his scorecard. White insisted at the UFC 123 post-fight press conference there wouldn’t be an immediate rematch.

On the flipside, he claimed it was far too early to determine what would be next for either of his two superstars.
