Fast rising Strikeforce prospect Daniel Cormier is expected to headline a Showtime-televised Strikeforce Challengers event on January 7th against fellow heavyweight Devin Cole.
The former Olympic wrestler is undefeated in his young career and has been the opposite of the wrestler stereotype, with each of his six fights ending by submission or KO. Cormier’s last bout was a first round TKO of Soa Palelei earlier this month at Xtremme MMA 3 in Sydney, Australia. The AKA standout will be looking to extend his six fight win streak when he fights Cole in January.
Cole is an IFL veteran who is coming off a September defeat to Team Punishment product Aaron Rosa at Shark Fights 13. That loss stopped a seven fight unbeaten streak dating back to May of 2009. Cole was a standout wrestler at NAIA Southern Oregon University, earning All-American honors in 2001. Cole will try to use his size and wrestling to negate the former Olympian’s momentum.
