The winner of December's WEC 53 main event between WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis will face the winner of the UFC 125 main event between UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard to unify the titles.
Jose Aldo will defend the UFC featherweight title for the first time at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day, UFC President Dana White confirmed on Thursday after announcing that World Extreme Cagefighting will merge with the UFC in January.
Aldo is expected to defend the title against Mark Hominick or Josh Grispi, who faces Erik Koch at WEC 52, but his opponent hasn’t been decided.
White also announced that the winner of December’s WEC 53 main event between WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson and Anthony Pettis will face the winner of the UFC 125 main event between UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard to unify the titles.
