Fighter Dies After Being Knocked Out in Pro Debut in South Carolina
Mixed martial arts experienced it's second death on Monday, as 30-year-old Michael Kirkham died after suffering a first-round knockout in his professional MMA debut at Saturday's "Confrontation at the Convocation Center" in Aiken, South Carolina

Mixed martial arts experienced it’s second death on Monday, as 30-year-old Michael Kirkham died after suffering a first-round knockout in his professional MMA debut at Saturday’s “Confrontation at the Convocation Center” in Aiken, South Carolina, WRDW reports.

According to the report, Kirkham, who had previously competed in several amateur bouts, was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center after failing to regain consciousness after being knocked out with several blows from mount in the opening round.

An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the exact cause of death.

In 2007, Sam Vazquez died after suffering a third-round knockout in Texas.
