Rashad Evans may be 31-years-old and a former UFC light heavyweight champion, but he’s never too old to get advice from his momma. Even if her baby owns an impressive 15-1-1 professional MMA record, she feels she must submit her scouting report to “Suga” each time he takes the Octagon.
While appearing as a guest on NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” on Friday, Evans not only discussed the sound advice his mother constantly gives him, but he also shared a top secret conversation he had with Randy Couture just hours before Evans entered the biggest fight of his life against former champ Chuck Liddell back in September 2008.
“Randy was like, ‘OK, here’s the situation, you’re nervous because you’re afraid of the outcome. Accept the worst outcome, and once you accept the worst outcome, you’ll be free. You’ll be able to go out there and fight like you’re able to fight.’” Evans recalled of his chat with the UFC Hall of Famer.
Shortly after that, Liddell was found unconscious on the canvas and Evans was $60,000 richer after earning “Knockout of the Night” honors.
As if sharing his personal stories weren’t enough, Evans also broke out an impromptu karaoke session with his rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand by me.”
Evans headlines UFC 133 opposite Tito Ortiz next Saturday (August 6th) inside the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
