Google translator language app

Google translator language app

I was watching TV and saw an ad where the guy visits a country and speaks into his phone and it translates what he says into the other language, so the other person can understand him. In the old days, that would be like a Star Trek or The Jetsons gadget. I know not everyone will get those references, but I guess that’s why we have google.

Anyways, the app Google Translator is extremely cool. I downloaded it from the android market, spoke some words into my LG Optimus V android phone,  and translated it into  Spanish, Portuguese, French and Japanese.  I tried my native “Filipino” language which I barely understand and thought I could learn it from this app, but unfortunately it does not have the voice pronunciations that speak out loud like the other languages I tried.  I am sure in the future it will have that function available in my language.  In all there are 50 languages available and the best thing is this is a free google app.

I can only imagine if we had this available when I was in high school, I really could become fluent in the Spanish classes I took.  I got A’s in the class but that is only because I know how to take and pass exams extremely well.  It would have been so much better if I became bilingual.  I have an online friend taking Japanese speaking classes right now and I have to admit that sounds pretty cool.

I know it is never too old to learn so I think I will make an effort to expand my horizons.  I have even given some thought of going back to school one day and getting a masters or judicial degree.  Right now, I just don’t have the motivation and commitment level I need to do those things.
