A pair of bouts have been added to DREAM.17 as officials have confirmed that lightweights Shinya Aoki and Rob McCullough will clash in a non-title bout while former Sengoku lightweight Satoru Kitaoka will go up against former Shooto champion Willamy Freire.
DREAM.17 is scheduled to take place on September 24 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
In addition to the added fights, DREAM.17 is expected to have the opening round of DREAM’s Bantamweight Grand Prix, which is expected to feature Hideo Tokoro, Masakazu Imanari, Kenji Osawa, Bibiano Fernandes and four other fighters.
Aoki is currently riding a five-bout win sstreak, with his most recent action including an impressive performance against Rich Clementi.
Meanwhile, McCullough makes his DREAM debut coming off a knockout loss to Patricky Freire in the opening round of Bellator’s 2011 Lightweight GP.
Kitaoka brought himself to prominence as he earned a submission win over Takanori Gomi at the 2008 Sengoku Lightweight GP; however, he then suffered a pair of consecutive losses to Mizuto Hirota and Jorge Masvidal. Since that time, he has earned three straight victories and will, like McCullough, be making his DREAM debut.
Freire, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to Waylon Lowe at a UFC event in January 2011; it was his only bout in the UFC.
With the additions to DREAM.17, the tentative fight card is as follows:
- Shinya Aoki vs. “Razor” Rob McCullough
- Satoru Kitaoka vs. Willamy “Chiquerim” Freire
- Caol Uno vs. “Lion” Takeshi Inoue
