Fighters.com talks today about the UFC ending their deal in 2011 with Spike TV. With that relationship ending, there’s going to be a shortage of UFC on free TV.
According to a report from MMA Fighting, the UFC’s current TV deal will come due at the end of 2011, after the landmark fourteenth season in the long-running UFC/Spike TV reality TV series “The Ultimate Fighter”. And with the UFC having banner years for the last several years, some fans and insiders are beginning to wonder if the UFC has gotten too big for Spike TV.
UFC President Dana White had some interesting comments on the situation, and in an unusually cryptic series of statements, he basically said that nothing is confirmed and anything is possible. Here are some highlights: “Our preference is to stay with [Spike TV]. Obviously we’ve been with them forever… We’re talking to everybody, and when I say we’re talking to everybody, we’re talking to everybody. That’s what you do when your deal is up… Anything is possible. Nothing is impossible.”
