Shields will look to return to his winning ways after losing to champion Georges St. Pierre on at UFC 129 in April via unanimous decision. That fight saw the end of a 15 fight win streak, which included wins over Dan Henderson, Jason “Mayhem” Miller, Yushin Okami, and Carlos Condit.
Ellenberger has been working his way up the contender ladder since dropping a split decision to Condit in his UFC debut in 2009. Since that loss, Ellenberger has won four fights in a row, most recently dominating Sean Pierson en route to a first-round knockout at UFC 129.
Although the UFC recently announced that all main events after August will be scheduled as five round fights, Shields-Ellenberger is expected to remain as a three round match.
