UFC lightweight fan favorite Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino has decided to walk away from MMA for the time being, and possibly for good.
The choice to walk away from the sport you love is never an easy decision for any athlete and it appears Pellegrino has been wrestling with the choice for awhile. Pellegrino and his wife recently welcomed a baby boy into the world and that apparently cemented Pellegrino’s decision to walk away from MMA.
Pellegrino announced his decision on his blog:
“At this time I am choosing to take some time off and step away from the sport as a fighter. Over my most recent fights I have come to the realization that at this point I no longer can, nor want to make fighting my first priority…”
“Most importantly I want to spend more time with my family. My daughter is four years old and I can’t tell you how much of her life I’ve missed dedicating my life to training for fights. I did so willingly and I’ve made a lucrative career with the UFC, but I’m not sure I could ever say any amount of money was worth it. My wife and I just welcomed a baby boy and I can’t bare the thought of missing as much of his ‘firsts’ as I did my daughters. I’m looking forward to dedicating more of my time to my academy which we’ve just expanded to 9000 square feet. I have almost 300 students and a professional and amateur fight team that I am excited to give more of my time to them, they deserve it. I’m also looking forward to keeping involved in the MMA community and giving back to the sport that has given me so much.”
Pellegrino lost two fights in a row for the first time in his career with his loss to Gleison Tibau at UFC 128 in March. Pellegrino was 16-6 (7-4 UFC) and won both a “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” against Thiago Tavares and Fabricio Camoes respectively.
While “Batman” left the door open for a possible return, with so much to focus on outside of the Octagon it is potentially the end of the road for this fan favorite.

It is the rare instance where a fighter is raplaced on a MMA fight card due to non-injury reasons, yet that is what happened on Tuesday.
The UFC announced on Tuesday (today) that Brad Tavares will replace Jason “Mayhem” Miller in a middleweight bout at UFC 132. Miller was chosen to be a coach during Season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, hence the change in combatants. Tavares will face Aaron Simpson as a result of the change.
UFC 132 will take place on July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, headlined by a bantamweight title bout pitting Dominick Cruz against Urijah Faber.
Tavares, a former TUF contestant, made his UFC debut in June 2010 and earned a unanimous decision win over fellow TUF castmate Seth Baczynski. On January 1, he defeated Phil Baroni via KO at UFC 125.
Simpson, on the other hand, sports a 9-2 record and began his career with eight straight wins before getting stopped by Chris Leben in June 2010. After losing a decision to Mark Munoz in November 2010, he turned things around with a unanimous decision victory over Mario Miranda at UFC Fight Night 24.
With the change of fighters, UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber is as follows:
“It’s déjà vu all over again.” While most fans thought Dream.17 took place this past weekend at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, it appears the name of that event was actually changed to “Dream: Fight for Japan” and the REAL Dream.17 card will go down July 16th.
Today, the financially plagued mixed martial arts promotion announced two title fights will headline their upcoming show inside the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.
Light heavyweight champ Gegard Mousasi puts his strap on the line against Hiroshi Izumi in the card’s featured contest, while Kazuyuki Miyata will challenge featherweight title holder Hiroyuki Takaya for his belt in the night’s other championship affair.
Dream’s eight-man bantamweight tournament will also conclude at the event.
As of now, no broadcast plans have been announced for the star-studded show. If the event is made available in North America, HDNet would likely play host.
Here are the athletes expected to perform in the Land of the Rising Sun:
Bantamweight Tournament:
Atsushi Yamamoto vs. Kenji Osawa (Third Place)
Masakazu Imanari vs. Hideo Tokoro (Finals)Individual Bouts:
Willamy Freire vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri
Kazuyuki Miyata vs. Hiroyuki Takaya vs. (Dream Featherweight Champion)
Hiroshi Izumi vs. Gegard Mousasi (Dream Light Heavyweight Champion)

I have tried about a hundred dollars worth of amazon free daily paid apps and I have no regrets. There have been a few great ones, most of them are average, and of course a few duds. Regardless, it didn’t cost me a penny. That is why I try almost all the amazon free daily paid apps since there is nothing to lose and the only investment is my time.
The latest app Yoo Ninja is nothing like I expected. I saw ninja and I thought it was some kind of fight game. So far, it has been addictive and fun to play the game. It is more a game of reflex which is both challenging and entertaining. Check it out and download it if you get a chance. Cheers!
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir dominated The Ultimate Fighter 10 winner Roy Nelson to score a unanimous decision and his second-straight win in the co-main event of UFC 130 on Saturday.
Mir scored with numerous knees and takedowns that left Nelson gassed, but was unable to finish him over the three rounds before the judges handed down 30-27, 30-27, and 30-26 scores.

I looked at the fight card to see who was fighting who and honestly it looked quite boring to me. I had planned not to watch UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill and it looks like I made the right decision. There are many web sites who said it was boring and even had the play by play descriptions. The card was simply weak.
Even the mma web sites that only sing praises for the UFC couldn’t say much about the event. Most of them described it as a non-event. Is the UFC getting boring or was it just a bad card? Is this what happens when we have a monopoly in mma? Now that UFC folded up WEC and has taken over Strikeforce, will the rest of mma continue to show like these events?
I get the feeling this free highlight video was a better than the ppv show.
