Anderson SilvaThe long-awaited superfight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre could happen later this year if the UFC champions are successful in their upcoming title defenses, UFC President Dana White announced during a Friday Q&A at Fort Hood ahead of UFC Fight for the Troops 2.

“If Anderson Silva wins on February 5, then Georges St-Pierre needs to beat Jake Shields in Toronto,” White said. “It that happens, then we’re probably going to do [Silva vs. St-Pierre]. If they both win, that fight makes all the sense in the world.”

Silva puts his middleweight title on the line against Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC 126 on Feb. 5, while St-Pierre’s defense of the welterweight title against Shields headlines UFC 129 on April 30.

Silva (27-4) submitted Chael Sonnen in August to improve to 12-0 in the UFC, dominating 185-pounds and occasionally moving up to light heavyweight, while St-Pierre (21-2) topped Josh Koscheck in December for his eighth-straight win.
