After recently suffering his fourth straight loss, light heavyweight veteran Keith Jardine has been released by the UFC nearly five years after debuting for the promotion.
UFC President Dana White today confirmed to MMAFighting that Jardine was cut after dropping a majority decision to Matt Hamill at Saturday’s The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale.
“It sucks,” White said. “I have nothing but respect for him and I hope to see him back soon.”
After being eliminated from The Ultimate Fighter 2 by future training partner Rashad Evans, Jardine won four of his first five UFC fights, including a victory over Forrest Griffin, but his title hopes were derailed after suffering a 48-second KO to newcomer Houston Alexander in 2007.
Jardine bounced back with a unanimous decision over former champ Chuck Liddell, but has since lost 5 of his last 6, including his current four-fight losing streak to Quinton Jackson, Thiago Silva, Ryan Bader, and Hamill that dropped his UFC record to 6-7.
