Former UFC and Strikeforce champion Frank Shamrock announced his retirement on Saturday at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum” in San Jose.
The first-ever UFC light heavyweight champion (then called the middleweight title), Shamrock was also Strikeforce’s first middleweight title-holder, an interim King of Pancrase, and the first-ever WEC light heavyweight champion.
Shamrock dropped the Strikeforce title to Cung Le in March 2008, then suffered a second-round TKO to Nick Diaz in Strikeforce in April 2009 in what would be his final MMA bout.
Shamrock ends his career with a 23-10-2 record.
