This virgin mobile lg optimus v phone is very popular and seems to be sold out on the virgin mobile site, bestbuy, target and radio shack. All of them seem to have it on sale but not in stock. 
Anyways, one of the reasons that this android phone appeals to me is the ability to tether without rooting. Here is a embedded video with the app demonstrating it.
