Tito Ortiz on Fighting Matt Hamill: “UFC Made The Decision”

Tito Ortiz on Fighting Matt Hamill: “UFC Made The Decision”

UFC light heavyweight Tito Ortiz

Tito Ortiz has just released a video where he’s seen inking his bout agreement to face one-time student Matt Hamill at “UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez.” The former light heavyweight champ also shed some light on having to fight his former protege.

“Matt, I’m sorry. Business is business though,” Ortiz matter-of-factly said before putting pen to paper.

“The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” reiterated that their meeting was nothing personal and he didn’t want to commit the same mistakes he made when he was forced to throwdown with Chuck Liddell -- a former amigo turned enemy.

“It sucks, but this is business. I had another friend who was close to me and I ended up losing a friendship over it, so I’ve come to realize that anybody at 205 (pounds) can’t be my friend. This is business, strictly a business,” Tito explained.

Although he hasn’t won a fight in nearly four years, Ortiz has set his sights on getting the 205-pound title back. He last held the belt at UFC 44 back in September 2004 before Randy Couture easily snatched it away from him.

The 35-year-old recently underwent successful neck surgery and is primed to get back into the Octagon, even if that means fighting someone he respects.

“I just want to get the best fights possible. I got to look forward for my career. [I want to get] the world title around my waist and the only way to do that is to fight the people UFC put in front of me. UFC made the decision, I was bummed, I love Matt, I think he’s an awesome athlete and he’s an awesome person,” stated Ortiz.

Even though Ortiz is using a business-like approach for his scrap inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA, he said he won’t be talking any trash about his former “The Ultimate Fighter 3″ student.

“You won’t see any [expletive] talking from me about Matt Hamill because I think he’s an awesome guy, but it’ll make it even a better fight when it comes October 23rd when I cave his face in,” Ortiz sheepishly stated.
