Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz could move up to middleweight for a grudge match with Jason “Mayhem” Miller in October, while Dan Henderson will likely return to light heavyweight for a rematch with former title-holder Renato “Babalu” Sobral at the possible CBS-televised event.
Diaz and Miller clashed in a post-fight brawl at April’s “Strikeforce: Nashville” and Miller tells Joe Rogan that Strikeforce is working to set up the bout after serving three-month suspensions.
Diaz (22-7) won the welterweight title with a first-round TKO of Marius Zaromskis in January, then submitted Hayato Sakurai at DREAM 14 in May for his seventh-straight win, while Miller (22-7) rebounded from a November loss to Jake Shields with a first-round TKO of Tim Stout in April.
Henderson’s manager told MMA Fighting that Henderson is preparing for a fall return and is open to a rematch with “Babalu,” but has yet to be formally offered the fight.
Sobral (36-8) rebounded from an August loss to Gegard Mousasi with a unanimous decision over middleweight contender Robbie Lawler in June, while Henderson (25-8) dropped a unanimous decision to Shields in his Strikeforce debut in April following three-straight UFC wins.
