An injury has forced Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto to withdraw from UFC 130, but rising bantamweight Michael McDonald has agreed to take his place and meet Chris Cariaso at the May 28 event in Las Vegas, the UFC announced Thursday.
McDonald had been set to fight at UFC 133 against Nick Pace, who now awaits a new opponent for the Aug. 6 event.
McDonald (12-1) earned “Fight of the Night” honors with a unanimous decision over Edwin Figueroa in his Octagon debut last month, while Cariaso (11-2) topped Will Campuzano in his first UFC fight in January after a 1-1 WEC stint.
Yamamoto (18-4) was slated to return after dropping a unanimous decision to Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson in his UFC debut in February. A timeline for his return from the undisclosed injury is currently unknown.
The UFC 130 fight card is headlined by a third meeting between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard and also includes Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Matt Hamill and Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson.
