On my mind

On my mind

It’s been 9 days since my wife and I decided to stop eating meats. And as soon as we finish the milk and dairy products in our refrigerator we will use substitutes for those items.  So I feel incredible right now.  I have lost inches around my waste and my clothes are noticeably loose.  I also have more energy to exercise now.

I have started reading a new book called “The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted And the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss, And Long-term Health” and it is awesome.    I feel like after watching the documentaries “Diet for a New America“, “Food, Inc.” and “EARTHLINGS” this book fits into the next step in the quest for knowledge.  I am up to chapter 3 right now and the stuff I have read so far is extremely insightful.  Some of the things I knew from previous readings are now factual  because of this study.  What I mean by that is the ideas before made sense to me but were based on  theory, and now that this person has released his findings it is scientifically proven.

As far as health and nutrition, I see the big picture and everything is connected.  I will continue knowing I am saving animals from further torture and living horrible lives.  By stopping the future purchase of animal meats and animal products, I know my money will no longer support the industries that bring the suffering to these animals.

Just when you thought you got away from Chael Sonnen’s nonstop chatter, Spike TV enters stage left with “Countdown to UFC 117.” The hour-long documentary debuts this Monday, August 2nd at 11PM ET/PT on the edgy network.

The show will spotlight the middleweight title fight between reigning king Anderson Silva and the talkative challenger that resides out of Team Quest in Oregon. Sonnen has done more than his fair share to sell the scrap thus far, however you best believe he’ll be locked and loaded with instant classic one-liners once the cameras start rolling.

It appears that UFC 120 is shaping up nicely as four bouts have been added to the fight card, according to officials at Spike TV have indicated. UFC 120 is scheduled to take place on October 16 from the O2 Arena in London, England anmd will be broadcast on a tape-delay here in the States on Spike TV.

The four bouts in question are:

• Travis Browne vs. Cheick Kongo
• Claude Patrick vs. James Wilks
• Cyrille Diabate vs. Alexander Gustafsson
• Steve Cantwell vs. Stanislav Nedkov

With the addition of these four bouts, that brings the total nu mber of fights to 10. Below is the tentative fight card for UFC 120:

Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the UFC and WEC, has sued prominent MMA agent Ken Pavia and rival promotion Bellator, alleging that Pavia shared Zuffa's trade secrets and confidential documents to help Bellator run its business.

Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the UFC and WEC, has sued prominent MMA agent Ken Pavia and rival promotion Bellator, alleging that Pavia shared Zuffa’s trade secrets and confidential documents to help Bellator run its business, Yahoo Sports Kevin Iole reports:

According to the suit, filed Wednesday in Clark County District Court, Pavia delivered confidential contracts, including fighter agreements, to Bellator after being asked to do so in a July 4 email to him from Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney.

An email which Zuffa’s lawsuit alleges is from Rebney to Pavia on July 4 was attached as an exhibit to the 16-page suit. In it, Rebney writes, ” … You’ve been great about sending us ‘All’ of the seminal docs from the UFC, so that we can re-do them and implement them for Bellator.”

Later, the email Zuffa alleges to have been written by Rebney continues, “Please list each in terms of what it is for and how the UFC uses them/implements them. … Then I’m going to have our team Monday re-type them and we will sufficiently alter them such that they will appear to be ours and not theirs.”

Pavia and Bellator declined to comment on the case, in which Zuffa is seeking damages as well as an injunction to prevent them from using the assets.

UFC Fan Expo Invades London in October During UFC 120 Weekend

With MMA blowing up in the U.K., it only made sense for Octagon brass to bring their highly popular UFC Fan Expo in London, England in October. The event will take place on October 15th-16th and will coincide with that weekend’s UFC 120 event, which features England’s own Michael Bisping.

“I am excited to bring a UFC Fan Expo to our incredible fans in Europe,” said UFC president Dana White. “People have been asking me about an International Expo ever since we held our first one at UFC 100, and now they have it – they’re getting two days of the best fan experience in all of sports, and on top of that an incredible fight card featuring Michael Bisping vs. Akiyama.”

UFC 120 boasts a pay-per-view quality card, but will be shown for free in the United States via same-day tape-delay on Spike TV.

UFC Fan Expo 2010 London, which will be held at Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London, marks the fourth official expo for the world’s biggest mixed martial arts promotion. However, this is their first venture on non-U.S. soil.

UFC 100 and UFC 114 both took place in Las Vegas, Nevada and UFC 118 will go down at the end of August in Boston, Massachusetts.

Between the Fan Expo and UFC 120, the UFC clearly wants to make a big splash in their return trip across the pond.

A welterweight bout between Mike Guymon and Daniel Roberts is in the works for the preliminary card of "UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez" on October 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Both Guymon (12-3-1) and Roberts (10-1) dropped their UFC debuts earlier this year before recently earning their first UFC wins.

A welterweight bout between Mike Guymon and Daniel Roberts is in the works for the preliminary card of “UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez” on October 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, MMAjunkie reports.

Both Guymon (12-3-1) and Roberts (10-1) dropped their UFC debuts earlier this year before recently earning their first UFC wins.

Guymon, a former King of the Cage champ, had his five fight win streak snapped with a loss to Rory MacDonald in January, but “The Joker” bounced back in May with a unanimous decision over Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC 113.

Roberts suffered his first career loss with a first-round KO to rising 170-pounder John Howard in March, but rebounded earlier this month with a split decision over late-replacement Forrest Petz at UFC 116.

The UFC 121 fight card is headlined by heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez and also features Jake Shields vs. Martin Kampmann and Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill.

The Mixed Martial Arts conspiracy gates busted wide open Thursday night when Yahoo! Sports reported Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the UFC and WEC, filed suit against semi-rival Bellator Fighting Champions and MMA power agent Ken Pavia for exchanging top secret Octagon info.

When Kevin Iole’s story hit the Internet, Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney was deferring all questions to company attorney Patrick English, who said he needed to gather more information on the lawsuit before commenting. It was a statement echoed by Pavia.

While most were dreaming of the weekend before their work alarms started blaring, Bellator brass – and most likely Pavia – were scrambling throughout the night trying to get their ducks in order. On Friday afternoon, the start-up MMA promotion finally broke their silence and released a statement in their own defense.

Zuffa seeks actual and punitive damages and a permanent injunction barring Bellator or Pavia from using Zuffa’s assets, including its intellectual property. Also included in the law suit are unnamed corporations and persons Zuffa believes participated in the Oceans 11-esque heist.

Here is what English told Yahoo!Sports today:

“I’ve looked at the paperwork, and I understand what’s going on here, and it is literally much ado about very little.

There were documents sent by Mr. Pavia to Bellator, but they are not of a competitive nature and they would give no advantage or disadvantage to the viewer. The bulk of them in no way, shape or form would be considered confidential and are not what I consider to be documents that Zuffa should be concerned about.

I did attempt to reach out to Zuffa [Thursday] and, unfortunately, have not gotten a return call. It happens that Bellator has not used any of the documents in any case.”

New bio update

New bio update

I just updated my bio information since it has been over 3 years since I created it.  Funny how things change over time.  Especially my perspective on life.  I watch very little television and read most of my news online.  Reality shows like Bachelor,Bachelorette, and Top Chef are no longer shows I enjoy since they are in my humble opinion fake and pre-determined outcomes.

Lately, I have had a burst of enthusiasm for life and feel like I am making a contribution to the world community.  It really is crazy but in a good way.  This change in lifestyle had given me more energy to do things and get things done as well as feel good about what I now consume.  I would have never guessed that I would one day become a vegan.

At the bottom of my blog, I took out the MBL and BC widgets and replaced it with an amazon widget of products I highly recommend.  These particular dvds and books changed my life and I hope you take a moment to consider checking them out.  Thanks again for stopping by and supporting me.

The UFC, at the risk of sounding obvious here, is on top of the food chain in terms of being a mixed martial arts organizations; Strikeforce, Rage in the Cage and may others take up the rear.

Regardless of the organizations’ station, there usually is something listed in a contract when an employee of one of these promotions which discourage or even ban employees, upon termination, from using trade secrets with their next employer.

Apparently, someone did not get the memo as the UFC is taking Bellator Fighting Championships to court; specifically, the UFC has filed a lawsuit in a Nevada court against Ken Pavia and Bellator.

The bone of contention here is the alleged theft of “trade secrets and confidential Zuffa (parent company of the UFC) documents.

According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, the suit provides copies of emails sent between Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney and Pavia that outline the wrongdoings.

Assuming that all of this is true and correct, you can almost safely assume that Bellator will be in deep, deep trouble a stealing trade secrets, regardless of the indutry in question, is a serious allegation. Should Bellator be found guilty of the charges levied against them, then expect Bellator to file some form of bankruptcy, as a result.

The suit will indirectly also show what tools that Rebney and Pavia are as leaving paper trails aren’t a very smart thing to do.

UFC Fight Night 22 should be one of the events under the “UFC Fight Night” banner as nine bouts have been signed for the event. UFC Fight Night 22 is scheduled to take place on September 22 from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX.

Zuffa, LLC Sues Bellator Fighting Championships and MMA Agent Ken Pavia

Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the UFC and WEC, filed a law suit on Wednesday against MMA super agent Ken Pavia in Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, Nevada for allegedly passing along Octagon trade secrets and confidential Zuffa documents to Bellator Fighting Championships, an upstart mixed martial arts rival.

According to the report, Bellator is a co-defendant in the suit because company founder Bjorn Rebney used the top secret files supplied by Pavia and his company, MMA Agents, as a blueprint for their business model. The email addresses included in Zuffa’s claim are those of Rebney and Pavia.

The story goes, Pavia – who reps roughly 50 MMA fighters, with more than 80 percent of them having been or are currently signed under the Zuffa umbrella – delivered confidential contracts, including fighter agreements, to Bellator after being asked to do so in a July 4th email.

The alleged Independence Day email, which Zuffa’s lawsuit claims Rebney sent to Pavia, was attached as an exhibit to the 16-page suit. Rebney supposedly writes, ” … You’ve been great about sending us ‘All’ of the seminal docs from the UFC, so that we can re-do them and implement them for Bellator…

“Please list each in terms of what it is for and how the UFC uses them/implements them. … Then I’m going to have our team Monday re-type them and we will sufficiently alter them such that they will appear to be ours and not theirs.”

To which Pavia apparently replied, “Still I (sic) vegas. May take 24 hours to organize as some forms go to the guys in my office.”

Pavia was attending UFC 116 on July 3rd in Las Vegas.

In a text message sent to Yahoo! Sports on Thursday evening, Pavia wrote,“I want to get a better understanding of this before I comment.”

Rebney has allowed Bellator attorney Patrick English to take the mic, however he echoed Pavia statement.

According the report, Zuffa seeks actual and punitive damages and a permanent injunction barring Bellator or Pavia from using Zuffa’s assets, including its intellectual property.

The report did not mention how Zuffa got their hands on Bellator’s confidential email chain that ignited this conspiracy.

Also included in the law suit are unnamed corporations and persons Zuffa believes participated in the heist. Here’s some additional legal mumbo jumbo regarding the case:

“The improper disclosure of Zuffa’s operations documents and confidential information by Pavia, MMA Agents, and the Doe and Roe Defendants constitutes a distinct act of dominion wrongfully exerted over Zuffa’s personal property.”

“The improper use by Bellator of Zuffa’s operational documents and confidential information in order to conduct its competing business operations constitutes a distinct act of dominion wrongfully exerted over Zuffa’s personal property.”
