Following last week’s season debut, The Ultimate Fighter 13 returned to Spike TV on Wednesday featuring the second opening-round matchup between the welterweight cast coached by heavyweight contenders Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos.
The episode opens with Team dos Santos’ last-pick Keon Caldwell struggling through workouts and being away from his family, but says he’ll to continue after a stern talk from UFC President Dana White.
Still in control of the matchmaking after last week’s win by top-pick Shamar Bailey, dos Santos chooses Javier Torres to face Team Lesnar’s Chris Cope.
After a final training session to prepare Torres for his fight, Caldwell changes his mind and opts to head home, but White is happy he’s leaving now to let a “real fighter” take his spot.
Meanwhile, Lesnar gives Cope and the rest of his fighters a pep talk stressing they can each win, even if the matchups aren’t in their favor.
In the season’s second opening-round fight, Torres and Cope split the first two rounds, but Cope narrowly wins the third to break the tie and advance to the quarterfinals with a unanimous decision win, gaining control for Team Lesnar in the process.
