Fedor Emelianenko will return to Strikeforce action next month when the former top-ranked heavyweight is expected to face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the main event of a Feb. 12 Strikeforce event at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, according to Sherdog.
Emelianenko (32-2) hasn’t fought since being upset by Fabricio Werdum last June as he worked on a new contract with the promotion, while Silva (15-2) knocked out late-replacement Mike Kyle last month for his second-straight win.
As previously reported, the long-rumored matchup is expected to be part of the opening round of a planned eight-man heavyweight tournament that could also include Josh Barnett vs. Andrei Arlovski on the Feb. 12 card.
A third quarterfinal between Werdum and Brett Rogers is reportedly planned for “Strikeforce: Columbus” on March 5, while another opening round matchup and a pair of alternate bouts are also in the works.
