UFC Champ Jose Aldo Injured, Title Fight with Chad Mendes Appears Off

UFC Jose Aldo Featherweight Champ

UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo has suffered an undisclosed injury that will nix his proposed title fight with Chad Mendes. Although their 145-pound affair was never officially assigned a date or venue, UFC 133 on August 6th was the front-runner to host their tango.

According to Heavy, the baddest featherweight in bare feet is expected back by mid-September.

This past November, Aldo was forced to withdraw from his UFC 125 bout with Josh Grispi after suffering from a compacted vertebrae, which was causing tingling in his arms.

Aldo was last seen posting a unanimous decision victory over Mark Hominick at UFC 129. After blasting out of the gates, Aldo gassed after the opening round and wasn’t able to finish Hominick as his 4-to-1 favorite status indicated he could easily do.

Shortly after the victory, it was revealed the Brazilian had an undisclosed infection and was on antibiotics until the Monday prior to the fight.

Mendes earned his top contender status by beating Michihiro Omigawa at UFC 126. “Money” holds a perfect 10-0 professional resume.

Although a shot at the brass ring is at his fingertips, Mendes’ manger told MMAJunkie they will not be waiting the extra several weeks for Aldo to mend. They are still hoping to appear in the Octagon’s return to Philadelphia in August.
