Strikeforce Purchase By UFC Announced, Coker Remains

Monday was a big day in California’s Silicon Valley and Las Vegas, NV as UFC executives announced the purchase of rival promotion Strikeforce, with the initial news coming out over the weekend.

UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said that Scott Coker, the head of Strikeforce, will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations for the promotion as part of the acquisition.

Today’s announcement also revealed that Strikeforce will be ran as a separate business, much along the lines of when the WEC was seperate from the UFC.

In addition, none of the Strikeforce fighters will be brought into the UFC and officials intimated that perhaps even more fighters will be brought into Strikeforce, bolstering their current roster.

The specific terms of the deal are not known; however, in a report by the Dayton Daily News, it is believed that Strikeforce was sold by Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment for between $30-...
